Topic: Disability Inclusion & Best Practices
The year 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the 75th year observing National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). While a lot of progress has been made to promote equal rights for people with disabilities, there is still an opportunity for employers to build more inclusive workplaces. In the area of employment, people with disabilities are disproportionately unemployed and underemployed compared to people who do not have a disability. The COVID-19 crisis has further exacerbated unemployment, revealing unique and more severe effects for people with disabilities. It has been observed that people with disabilities are more likely to lose their job during the pandemic, experience discrimination and greater difficulties looking for jobs and returning to work. During this workshop, SourceCast’s Vice President of Business Development, Lilly Jamshidi, will discuss ways in which people with disabilities have been impacted and what employers can do to uphold disability inclusion in workplace and hiring practices. Participants will receive actionable tips and best practices to build workplaces that are inclusive of people with disabilities both during the pandemic and beyond.
